Today's featured artist is Rachael Cloughton with her work 'A Virtual Biennale'.
The Solar Pavilion, by leading Scottish artist Karen Forbes, has been commissioned by Edinburgh Art Festival 2011. The artwork is situated within Edinburgh's St Andrew Square and will be open to the public from the 4th August.
The Solar Pavilion draws time in light, creating a parallel line to the Melville Monument's circling shadow. It is an architectural twinned system, moving continuously through the horizontal and vertical axii, driven by the sun. This unique and graceful structure is not only a stunning example of public art, but acts as a dynamic space to showcase the latest in creativity and innovation in Scottish and international art for the Edinburgh Festival. It is a shimmering chamber in which to lie back and really see the Melville Monument and the moving sky above, to orientate yourself in the centre of Edinburgh, absorbed between radiating curves of glass, an optical viewing point to re-see the city from. For more information, see the About page.
In addition, 24 artists have been commissioned to create a response to issues of site and context within their work with reference to the Solar Pavilion and its location in a project entitled 'Solar'. Their responses will be available to view on this site and will be published throughout August.
